As the Advanced Biotech NZ (ABNZ) founder, Brendon has brought together a team in NZ that provides complementary expertise to support the development.
Brendon brings 25 years of commercial and technical expertise from having held product development and senior business development roles from both within NZ and offshore. Brendon has a degree in Chemical and Process Engineering (Canterbury), a Post Graduate diploma in Dairy Science and Technology and his career includes roles with Lactose Company of NZ, NZ Dairy Board, Contact Energy, GE (in the US and Mexico) and Mighty River Power – Mercury.
Brendon’s resume of developments aggregates to over $2 Billion in investment where he has held senior roles from establishing partnerships, to financial modelling, to technical trials, to sales in market and governance.
Rob Powell brings technical and regulatory expertise to ABNZ. Rob holds a PhD in Biochemistry from Otago University and an MBA from University of Maryland in the US. Rob brings over a decade of experience from working with biotech start-ups, research institutes and the FDA in the US. Rob founded Powell Biotech Partners in 2007 where he provides technical, regulatory and risk analysis to biotech and life science ventures in both NZ and offshore.
Rob’s role in ABNZ has been to work with Sustain Biotech to develop the process for the manufacture of collagen products in NZ. Rob has also developed protocols for herds and raw materials that would form an integral part of the supply chain for the envisaged venture.
Andrew is an advisor to ABNZ who has provided support around connecting ABNZ to industry groups within the agriculture-biotech space. Andrew holds a Bachelor of Veterinary Sciences, an MBA (with distinction) and his career includes senior management and Directorships with a range of leading agriculture and science companies operating in NZ.
Andrews experience includes GM Commercial for Landcorp, Director of AgResearch, Managing Director of VE Veterinary Services, CEO of AgVax Developments (an agri-biotech company responsible for commercialising science from AgResearch), CEO of Canesis Network Limited, and CEO of Farmcare, Chairman of Cobb and Co restaurants NZ.
Kruger brings experience in finance & audit and extensive relationships across Iwi groups around NZ. Prior to joining ABNZ, Kruger spent time with an entity exploring the establishment of a bovine biotech operation in NZ. He brings experience from working with farming groups and with Fodder (Australia) has established a grazing feed technology program that is expanding its footprint around NZ.
Andy holds a PhD in Microbiology, MSc in Food Technology and Quality Assurance & a BSc in Biology (Hons). Andy has held quality, operations and technical leadership roles with Coca Cola (Australia & NZ), Sainsbury, Griffins. Andy has been identified to support the implementation and operation of the ABNZ facilities in area of quality control.
